Are people nowsaday charirable? That's my question.
See the small box at Macdonald's that usually says : Every cent keeps them going. Please, lend a helping hand. And there will be a picture of an elderly.
You buy a regular coke for $1.95. And get back a change of 5¢. Would you actually care to put it inside the box? Another example which might make you understand more of what im trying to say.
You go to a mall near the MRT. There would be youngsters who would walk up to you and say 'can you spare me 5 mins to...' But even before they can finish their sentence, you would probably be giving the No Thanks sign. Or, you might be standing there looking at the sky, pretending you cant hear them or someone has called you. They might even chase you all the way just to get you to donate a sum of $4 - $10. But, for the majority of you, you would be trying hard enough to lost them in the crowd while they follow you all the way.
Yes, i agree the sum that they require you to donate is more than what you expect. You would rather buy a meal at KFC or something. But where do these money you spent come from? Your parents, for most of you.
But for the elderly? They have no incomes. If the money aren't for the elderly, they would most probably be for the kids at Yio Chu Kang Garden School or family with financial problems with sick children to pay thier medical bills for. $4 to them would be considered a drop in the ocean.
A $4 donation.
If its little than it wont make a difference if i dont donate. An average housewife says.
I rather spent my money at the arcade. An avergae boy says.
If so, than you're just being self-centered. If one thinks that way, the whole society soon will too which will lead to a no-one-will-donate situation.
It does make a difference, every cents count. They get $400 for every hundreds who donate. The money collected isnt for buying fancy clothes or buy PS3 and stuffs, it is to save a life. A sick child without one operation could die or get paralysed for the rest of their life. Unless you want this to happen, please donate generously.
A $50 donation
Im sure not every Singaporean would donate this amount of cash willingly. They would rather watch the NKF show and get to see their idol doing stunts on TV before they donate. This is just for the sake of giving money, it is not a noble act to our community like our school value suggests. Now, is this what you want?
If even a $4 you feel hard to donate, would you still want to donate a $50 amount? I think not.
